Classes

Tiny Tots

Age 2. No previous training. Emphasis on creative movement, classroom etiquette, Tumbling and Tapping on a musical journey.

Pre-Dance                                
Ages 2.5-3.  No previous training. Emphasis on creative movement:

Tap-Ballet-Tumbling.
Pre-Dance 2

Ages 3-5.  Basic dance steps and creative movement: Tap-Ballet-Acro-Dance.

One year in Pre-Dance required if 3, or age 4-5 beginners.

Kinder-Dance

Ages 5-6. Basic dance steps for Ballet-Tap & Acro-Dance.

Two years in Pre-Dance required if 4, or age 5-6 for beginners.

​Ballet

Is a traditional style of dance where students learn the proper body positions as well as other important technical skills. These skills help them gain control, learn grace & are the proper base to execute the technical elements in all dance genres.

Tap

Is a form of dance characterized by using the sounds of tap shoes striking the floor as a form of percussion. Two major variations on tap dance exist: rhythm (jazz) tap and Broadway tap. Broadway tap focuses on dance; it is widely performed in musical theater. Rhythm tap focuses more on musicality. At WSDC we blend The broadway style with the Rhythm style to give students a well rounded tap dance education.

Jazz

Students learn rhythm and how to find accents in music using a wide range of motion and technique. An upbeat class grounded in strong movements and a classy style.

Musical Theater

A form of theatrical performance that combines music, acting, and dancing. The performer brings the story of the song to life on stage! Learn about different theatrical productions and experience live song and dance.

Hip Hop

A high energy class using hip hop & pop music. This class works with rhythms and musicality. Students will learn use of levels and footwork and all the fundamental moves of Hip-Hop.

Lyrical

A fusion of Ballet & Jazz technique, Lyrical dance is generally performed to music with lyrics, it uses inspire movements to express strong feelings and emotions the choreographer feels from the lyrics in the chosen song.

Acro-Dance

Students will learn to properly execute: somersaults, hand stands, cartwheels, etc. all while building core strength, upper and lower body strength. Joined with dance technique to blend dance with tumbling. WSDC follows the Acrobatic Arts Syllabus.

Broadway Jazz

Learn the jazz techniques that are used in broadway shows.  Students will learn about different shows through the course of the year and the choreography & music styles that go along with them.

OPEN CLASSES:

"Open" Classes are classes that encompass multiple levels. Based on your level first & your age second, you can find multiple Open classes to choose from.  Open classes are taught to the highest level in the class so that all students are getting a fun & challenging dance education.

 

ADULT CLASSES

Looking to take class again as an adult? Looking to try dance for the first time? Tap, Jazz, Lyrical & Hip Hop classes available.

TEAM CLASSES:

Team Classes are classes made up of Competitive Dance Team Students. To apply for Competitive Dance Team you will need to submit an application (available upon request) and then schedule an audition or attend our summer Audition Intensive.  Non-Competitive dancers may also apply to take Team Technique classes, ex. Jumps & Turns technique & Team Ballet, and will be scheduled for evaluation by the Instructor.  If you apply & are accepted onto our WSDC Dance Team you will have required technique classes as well as your chosen genre.  Example: If you are on our Acro Team, you are required to take Team Ballet Technique etc.

All classes at WSDC are run at the highest ability level of that class.  We place students by ability first, then age, so we have classes that level up together. If you have questions on where your student should be placed, feel free to contact us any time!
